In the age of AI, trust means stewarding data with the utmost care. Our dataset is more than numbers: it’s a credible blueprint for research, innovation and systems change. Through acceleratorKHP, we can responsibly use data to generate insights, inform policy, act on our commitments to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) and redefine help.

It starts with a national youth mental health dataset — scaled, structured and secure — built on trust.

The KHP Youth Mental Health Data Hub

The KHP Youth Mental Health Data Hub is a secure, internal environment integrating and analyzing Canada’s most expansive youth mental health dataset. Drawing from over 23M interactions — including over 1M de-identified conversation transcripts and 53M text-based messages — the Hub offers a first-of-its-kind lens into young people’s world and well-being. Integrating youth mental health data sources setting a baseline for research and innovation include:

  • Crisis conversations (labelled volunteer crisis responders and professional counsellors)
  • Post-conversation surveys (youth-reported mood shifts, satisfaction and perceived support outcomes)
  • Resources Around Me data (engagement patterns from 40,000+ listings including topic searches, identity filters and geographic demands)

Topic Modelling

Each de-identified conversation with a young person is a signal we can learn from — and act on. With techniques such as topic modelling and language-trend analysis, we can translate frontline interactions into actionable insights.

What we’re learning from young people across Canada includes:

  • Emotional patterns (e.g. spikes in feelings of loneliness around holidays, etc.)
  • Structural access gaps (e.g. rural youth relying on KHP’s online messaging service due to limited cell coverage, etc.)
  • Equity signals (e.g. Indigenous and Black youth accessing our services at more than twice their population share, etc.)

Service Deserts

In Canada, a young person’s location can limit their access to support. But help shouldn’t be hard to find — no matter where you are. KHP’s service-gap mapping tool uses youth mental health data to surface Service Deserts — areas with high youth populations and limited or no access to mental health support.

Our approach combines:

  • geographic heatmaps
  • demographics
  • infrastructure access
  • KHP service data

And our insights are used to:

  • identify gaps in access to support
  • pinpoint regions with unmet needs
  • strengthen funding proposals for equitable resource distribution
  • bridge the physical–digital divide

When “fine” doesn’t mean fine, our data and research can help us connect with young people who may otherwise be left out.

Service Deserts spotlight: Nova Scotia

Population size doesn’t necessarily predict wellness service availability. In Hants County, youth mental health data mapping shows high demand and limited supply — while Richmond County appears comparatively well resourced. This kind of niche insight is already influencing KHP’s outreach and government engagement.

You can support a mapping initiative in your community by funding a provincial project with acceleratorKHP!
